An art project for the city library has been completed with success and relief. Three 4' X 8' panels were meant to be placed on walls to look like windows into the world. A friend of our family and a fellow artist, Judy Pack prepared the boards. She designed much of the content, researching and searching for resource material. The design included a classic look of vignettes framed in faux gold with fleur-de-lis on a wood-look background. She and her husband(the mountain man-see below) went to South Africa for 18 months with about half of each panel painted. Finishing the project was a lot of fun because Judy had done so much preparation and design making it quicker and easier to finish. The first panel has a fantasy theme with princesses, castle, fairy, elves, a giant, a gleaming unicorn, a writhing dragon, a menacing troll under a bridge, a skating bear, Heidi in the Alps, "Some Pig" from Charlotte's web and Harry Potter who magically appeared.

The second panel has a water adventure theme with many types of plants and animals represented, a full masted ship, a pirate and parrot, mermaid, scuba divers, sharks, porpoise, killer whales, "Finding Nemo" clown fish and some scary denizens of the very deep. There is even a suggestion of a sea serpent.
The third panel seemed like it would be such a big space with sparse content which turned out to be interesting and attractive.
Holbrook's colorful history is highlighted with glimpses of other attractions on Arizona's high desert plateau ~~
~~ Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, the Petrified Forest, one of the many natural sandstone arches, petraglyphs, cowboys and Indians, stage coach and Pony Express rider, a mountain man, and an Indian hogan which is located below the Vermillion Cliffs near the Marble Canyon bridge crossing of the Colorado River. Holbrook's history includes the finding of dinosaur bones, but more recently the renovation of the historic train station which will be a museum and the familiar pose of a long-gone local lawman. Commodore Perry was exonerated in an unfortunate shooting incident where the bad guys and some innocent bystanders perished. The desert plants provide fascinating texture to decorate the landscape along with more than a dozen animals portrayed and tucked into vignettes and crevasses. It has been a fun project.
