When I was somewhere around 8 or 9 years old, our family had a red pickup truck. I determined from finding trucks on the good ol' Internet, that the particular model was likely a 1951 Ford. It was red with the rounded look which I have equated with that era. I think it was probably a used vehicle, but frankly I have no idea. I remember climbing on top of the cab roof, following my brother's example as he enthusiastically jumped off or at least that was my impression at the time. I sat up there in the stratosphere of vehicle heights and finally chickened out. We probably made our contributions to the dents. But vehicles were made of sturdy stuff in the olden days.
When I came across a black and white photo of a family friend, MacArthur Stant, I just had to paint the setting because of the nostalgic pickup truck. Mac was truly a Hawaiian free spirit who lived his life to the fullest beginning with the blessing of growing up in paradise. He probably spent the first 20 years of his life barefoot. The only things missing from this scene are some of the traditional types of clothing he wore regularly, a flowered Hawaiian shirt and a lava-lava.

You really are just pumping paintings out like some kind of machine! I'm impressed!
My brother, Tony added to the tale: I definitely remember our red pickup. It was a Dodge, and
probably about a '50 model. Dad really liked it. He installed some blinkers where you had to pull some knobs, right or left to make the lights flash. It was the one that Chadra had her accident with, and rolled it. I remember that Dad bought a new cab and replaced the mashed one. The hulk of the old cab remained down in the low field for many years. It was an object of play several times. I guess it was finally hauled away for junk. I don't remember, specifically, what happened to the rebuilt pickup. It may be that Dad traded it off for another pickup. I seem to remember a lighter colored pickup.
Dad really liked the "compound gear". He took the pickup on a Fathers and Sons outing in the Black Range one time, and was so proud of its offroad capabilities. I didn't think that his showing off was absolutely necessary. I didn't like compound. It was just too slow, and wasn't necessary when you were just going on a typical trip. It was four speed and reverse, and was adequate.
