Cousins at the Homestead

For generations, Homestead cousins have wandered about on the rock strewn grounds finding things to do - climbing Trigo, hunting for horned lizards, heading for the pond or the rope swing. They spend time picking wild flowers for their moms AND carrying the necessary equipment - beanie flippers, water bottles, flashlights and sticks of all sizes. It's what they do.

A new painting has that as its theme "Cousins - Let's Go Climb Trigo." The view of the Homestead was different from what I have painted before and a bit of a challenge to put the row of cabins in correct perspective. I wanted to include the favorite items such as the cultural hall, the cook shack and the large bell which is cracked and doesn't have a regular bell's voice.

I looked in my file of grandkid photos for positions and stances of cousins. Two of the photos I used were from an infamous armpit/popsicle fiasco, one from a wild stilts-can escapade. There were more than a few I would like to have used but couldn't.

Very fun pictures, and great painting idea! I wouldn't use the popsicle photo at the bottom in homestead stuff though. That picture was taken at our apartment a couple years ago! :) Although, it would be fun subject for popsicle art. I think that same day we have a picture of a cousin looking like tarzan with popsicle in hand! What cute kids we all have!
